Literature Text

We were just friends, Lily and I. We were two friends going to the movies. No biggie. Then, as we were walking home she leaned over and very gently kissed me.
I'm no saint. And I'm not straight, either. Girls, guys, it never seemed to matter. But this, this was different. So much was different. Lily had always been the shy, innocent one. But now, I was surprised to have her kiss me.
Eons later, she pulled away and looked at me.
"Hey Carmen."
"Lily, I-" I began a speech about how I knew she was straight, knew she only wanted to "experiment" as so many other girls had with me. But I'm no lab rat. Besides, so many girls before, girls who I hadn't even thought about in that way had used me. Then, they used the fact that I wasn't straight as an excuse to push me away. Too many friendships had been ruined, and this wasn't going to happen again. Not with Lily.
But before I could start, she pressed her mouth against mine, this time harder.
She led me to her house and kissed me one more time. This time I pushed her away and just asked her.
"What, what are you doing?"
She looked at me, tears in her eyes. "I Just needed to be sure. Just once." Then she sprinted inside.
It wasn't a date.
